Health risk assessment of heavy metals in seeds of different crops in typical agricultural area of Three River Plain
【Abstract】 Objective To understand the content characteristics and health risks of heavy metals in crops in Three River Plain.Methods A total of 48 rice sampling sites,nine corn sampling sites and 12 soybean sampling sites were selected in Daxing Farm area of Three River Plain from September to October in 2017.The contents of Zn,Hg,Cu,Cr,Ni,As,Cd and Pb in seeds of different crops collected from sampling sites were determined,health risk assessment was performed using single factor pollution index method,comprehensive pollution index method and target hazard quotient method. Results Among all seeds samples of rice,corn and soybean,the content of Zn was the highest,followed by Cu,which was much higher than those of other heavy metals. The contents of Cu and Ni in seeds of soybean were much higher than those in rice and corn,the content of As in seeds of rice was higher than those in corn and soybean,and the content of other heavy metals in seeds of different crops was close.The over standard rates of the content of heavy metals in crops were 14.58% for Ni and 6.25% for As in rice,33.33%and 83.33% for Ni in corn and soybean respectively.The average single factor pollution indices in three corps were ranked as follows:Ni>As>Zn>Cu>Cr>Hg>Pb>Cd.The mean value of comprehensive combined pollution index in all samples was 0.72,which was below the alert line.Health risk assessment indicated that the values of the target hazard quotient(THQ) for single and total heavy metals were all less than 1.The most contribution to total THQ was As in rice,As and Zn in corn,Cu and Ni in soybean seeds. THQs of heavy metals in seeds of rice,corn and soybean were 0.215-0.843 for children and 0.164-0.617 for adults. Conclusion The intake of heavy metals in different crops in the investigated region presents higher potential health risks for children compared with adults,both of which will induce no damage to human health.
